POSTPONED TO EARLY SEASON 56

Adapted for the stage by Helen Edmundson; Based on Andrea Levy’s Orange Prize-winning novel.

Directed by Rufus Norris, Andrea Levy’s epic novel bursts to new life on the Olivier stage. Small Island embarks on a journey from Jamaica to Britain, through the Second World War to 1948 – the year the HMS Empire Windrush docked at Tilbury.

"The show has dazzling attention to detail, seamless transitions between the West Indies and England, a mix of naturalism and playfulness and fine ensemble playing from a 40-strong cast. But it stands out most of all because of what it has in abundance – that rarest of qualities in an epic – charm.” (The Observer)
