My very positive experience directing Ripcord last September prompted me to find another play for Season 54. I loved Clever Little Lies when I first heard it read at the Naked Stage, so that script was my immediate choice.
What seemed to be the biggest challenge, finding a couple young enough to play the son and daughter-in-law, was quickly solved when two newcomers showed up to audition: M.A. Bruneau and Donny Bryant. Combined with Barbara and Zane, they made up a believable family. Complementing the talents of the cast, the entire crew has been wonderful in making the show come to life.
I'd like to especially thank Sheron Brackenbury, who has virtually lived at the theatre all summer, dedicating her time and talents to creating three completely different scenes on the revolve stage.
I also want to thank Bruce Linnen, who laid the foundation for the stage manager in the first month of rehearsals by meticulously taking blocking notes and managing the administrative responsibilities. I am forever indebted to Deb Bowers for stepping in and sharing her knowledge and experience in the collaborative process as stage manager for the final month.
In the recent past LLT has produced two of Joe Di Pietro’s works: The Last Romance and Over the River and Through the Woods. Both were very popular among our audiences. I hope that you will enjoy this tale of love, marriage, infidelity and clever little lies.
