For the last show of the season, LLT and the cast and crew of Cake Walk would like to welcome you to Anytown, Canada, in the mid-1980s. This is a world before cell phones and social media, before COVID and world politics. It also is the cutthroat world of cake contests, Canada Day celebrations, and comedy.

Our cast has had fun rehearsing this play, finding new things to laugh at as each character has come to life. We hope you will enjoy their antics, and, especially if you are from a small town, perhaps recognize some of the characters as you watch. The time and place may be in the past, but the competition is timeless. 

Our crew has worked hard to bring 1980s small-town Canada to life. Joy Cook designed all of the cakes, which are the centerpieces of the show. She spent weeks on these creations! Working with the set design and notes contributed long-distance by Lynn Phelan (who is looking forward to finally returning Lakeside this winter after a COVID induced hibernation), Joy Swetnam and her fabulous team have recreated the basement meeting room of every Rotary Club or community centre of the time. Roy Haynes and David Hudnall did a fabulous job finding just the right costumes for the era: shoulder pads, seersucker suit and all. Margo Eberly acted not only as Producer, but also helped create some of the props. Amanda Timmis, a newcomer to theatre and to LLT proved to be an invaluable asset as the Assistant Stage Manager. And I have to say a huge thank you to Sally Jo Bartlett for stepping in as my Stage Manager just when I needed her most. We have worked well together and I have welcomed her input and the collaboration of everyone.
